The Tournament was inaugurated on 5th April at 6.00 PM. The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Akhil Kumar, a boxer of international repute and an Arjun Awardee. The event was also attended by the Guest of Honour District Collector Mr. P. Narhari, Vice Chancellor AUMP
Lt. Gen. V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd) and other dignitaries. Tennis players from all parts of the country enthusiastically participated in this tournament. After 5 days of healthy competition, the tournament came to an end on 10th April. The grand closing ceremony was attended by Mr. Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Rajasthan and Adl. President, RBEF as a guest of honour, Dr. Sunil Saran, Chancellor AUMP, Lt. Gen. V.K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd) Vice Chancellor,  AUMP and other dignitaries. Mr. P. Narhari Collector, Gwalior was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

The ceremony included distribution of prizes to the winners and presenting of mementoes to the guests.

Current State of Higher Education in India:Issues & Challenges, Amity University Gwalior

In India, university education system is in the state of frustrate and disrepair. Due to low quality education, the students’ enrollments in technical education are abysmally low in almost seventy percentages of the districts of India. In India, almost sixty six percentages of total universities and ninety percentages of technical colleges are rated as below average on quality parameters. There are so many institutes and university are facing acute problem of admission, placement, good faculty and are near to close down.

In India, Higher education system is suffering from several systemic deficiencies. As a result, these institutes and universities are continuously producing the graduates that are unemployable despite of emerging shortages of skilled manpower in an increasing number of sectors. The standard of quality education and academic research in higher education institutes and universities are low and continuous declining. There is, indeed, a multitude of interconnected problems that India faces in its higher education system; in a summary and particularly incisive diagnostic, one of the more thorough recent analyses of the situation describes both the scope and the seriousness of the challenge:

• The unwieldy affiliating system
• Inflexible academic structure
• Shortage of good academicians and researchers
• No policy or strategy for attracting good faculty, researchers, and students
• Uneven capacity across various subjects
• Eroding autonomy of academic institutions
• The low level of public funding
• Dysfunctional regulatory environment and low coverage of the accreditation system
• Absence of incentives for performing well in academic and research
• The quality and relevance of the curriculum in higher education with industry demand
• The role of assessment and evaluation in higher education
• The state of research both within and outside institutions of higher education.
• The High Level exploitations in private universities and institutes
• Non-uniformity and standard course structures, and non-updation of course structure on time
• Course contents are not designed as per the requirement of Industry
• Lacking of infrastructure and environment for Research and Development

The quantity/quality, regulation, privatization, staffing, and studying in abroad are the prominent factors for seeding critical issues in higher education system in India.

1. Excellence and expansion

It is evident that Department of Higher and Technical Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development of Government of India is facing major challenge in developing quality and quantity in education system in India.

2. Regulation and governance

The University Grants Commission (UGC) New Delhi is a statutory, regulatory authority of higher education in India.UGC is responsible for laying down the rules and regulations for the promotion and co-ordination of University education and for the determination and maintenance of standards of teaching, examination and research in Universities, and for the purpose of performing its functions. The current state of higher and technical education in India clearly shows that UGC is not doing its duty and responsibilities sincerely. The anxiety of society toward the higher and technical education has forced me to critically analyze the functionality of UGC and raised the voice of society in the form of some questions to UGC:

• Is the UGC doing its duty sincerely for which it was formed?
• Is UGC murdering the objectives, purposes for which it was constituted by parliament of government of India?
• Has the UGC empowered to only for making/laying down the rules and regulations not for their implementations?
• Is UGC closely monitoring the all university?
• Are all universities following the UGC norms on timely or not?
• If no, what actions have taken by UGC against university?
• Has UGC laid down the high quality standard, rules, and regulations for granting permission/recognition to any University and their strict implementation?
• Has UGC made any transparent system for recognition/ de-recognition?
• Why UGC is not making mandatory criteria for appointing/promoting candidates to Professor those who have at least 10 high quality research papers in SCI/SSCI/HSCI indexed nonpaid journals of high impact factors or having at least two/three patents?
• Is there any system that can honestly rate the university on the basis of quality of teaching and research, infrastructure, faculty and level of implementation of UGC rules and regulations?
• Does the all above mentioned activities not come in purview of UGC?
• Educationalist/ Academician/ Administrator who is responsible for this pathetic situation of higher and technical education in India?

3. The privatization of higher education

The private institutes and universities have entered into higher education system with an objective of enhancing the quality of education and research. These institutes attempted to respond to the massive demand of technocrats, budding researchers. It is a good step for expanding the horizons of higher and technical education in India but there is sky height exploitation of their employees, students, society in private university. Some private institutes are also declining the quality of teaching and research and also producing the large number of graduates that are unemployable despite of emerging shortages of skilled manpower in an increasing number of sectors.

4. Staffing higher education

There is a strong need to form the large pool of highly capable scholars from both private and public sectors to provide academic leadership in teaching and research. These scholars should be promoted for their research work publication in SCI indexed journals. This strategy will certainly increase the country and university ranking in research in the world through recording the institute existence in world ranking database of Thomson Reuters.

5. The study in abroad

It is notable that Indian scholars are continuously moving to European countries for earning higher and technical education. European countries are expanding and enhancing the pool of qualified Indians for excellence in teaching and research. MHRD, Government of India has to think why are Indian scholars moving to European countries for study?

This article presents the current state of higher education in India. It can be concluded that the university education system in India is in turbulent, aggravate and disrepair state. This article shows the real and critical stage of higher and technical education in India.

This article pointed out that moving boldly in the direction of an international competitive system of higher education and research will be gainful, and overcome the current issues and challenges of higher and technical education in India and will help us in recording our existence in Times Higher Education World University Rankings database of Thomson Reuters. This article may be useful for MHRD for devising the new policy and strategy for enhancing the higher and technical education in India.

CINEASTE 2015- A Tribute to Films and Cinema by ASCO,  Amity University Gwalior
Amity School of Communication, Amity University, celebrated its Annual Film Festival “CINEASTE 2015” on 18th March 2015.

The chief guest for the event was the National Award winning actor Rajkumar Rao of Kai Po Che, Queen, Citylights and Shahid fame. A versatile actor, Rajkumar Rao shared his knowledge and experience related to his life and work in an interactive session with the students. Calling himself a learner still, he told the students how closely he could relate to them.

He shared the experience of his bollywood journey and got nostalgic recalling his first break in the industry and his National Award winning performance in Shahid. He answered all the questions put forward by the students very tactfully and even fulfilled the wish of one of his fans to have a dance with him. His energy and charming presence filled everyone with enthusiasm.

The event was also graced by the presence of Media Expert Mrs. Rachna Johri. She has about two decades of experience in areas of National Production and Development of Communication for Broadcast media and Audio- visual teaching in music production and Radio Broadcast. Deeply rooted in executive, business and management skills, Mrs. Johri has worked with Doordarshan Delhi, BIG FM, ISRO and has been a visiting faculty at DAVV University, Indore.

The film festival invited movies and documentaries from all over the country and was successful in receiving more than 50 entries, out of which a selected few were chosen to be screened during the event. The event started with an audio- visual tribute to 100 years of Indian Cinema, prepared by the ASCO students, followed by an innovative ‘ASCO Showreel’ showcasing the fantastic members of faculty of Team ASCO – the organisers and conveners of this event.

‘Telegram’, a heartwarming movie from Indore based on invasion of modern technology on the primitive telegram system, won the award for the Best Film. ‘Pristine Waters’ from Noida was selected in the Best Script category. The movie focused on the importance and utility of river Yamuna in the lives of the people and showed a contrasting phase of it getting adversely polluted due to human activities. The award for the Best Direction was grabbed by the movie ‘Poverty Nemesis’, by ASCO, AUMP students that depicted an emotional story of a son carrying forward the lineage of poverty inherited by him from his father. Prizes worth Rs.50000 were awarded to the winners of Cineaste 2015.

Cinesta 15 was intended to encourage the art of film making by appreciating the efforts and vision of the people associated with this field and also to inspire prospective film-makers among the students.

Amity School of Engineering and Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh Gwalior conducted its first Tech festival “AAROH 2015” on 12 and 13 February 2015 with a view to make available a platform for the students to show case their talent along with the enthusiastic participants assembled from assorted professional institutions of the city. The objectives of the Tech Fest were manifold: to bring together the students from across diverse fields, to promote innovative ideas and allow students to share their knowledge and ideas with other students and to facilitate inter-disciplinary exchange of ideas and information. 

The Tech Fest was inaugurated with the ribbon cutting ceremony by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma, AVSM (Retd). The first day of the fest witnessed exciting  events like Business Management Plan, Logo Designing, Photography, Model Making, Collage Making,Treasure Hunt, Case Study, Soap Carving, and Technical Quiz etc. The event were a judicious mix of knowledge, skills & fun.

The events of day two also furthered the continuous zeal and competitive spirit among the students. The events that set the Amity Campus alive with enthusiasm and fun were Technical Paper Presentation, Paper Costume Design, Software Designing, Web Designing, Counter Strike (War Zone), NFS, Soap Carving, Treasure Hunt, Rodies and Robotics etc.

Approximately one thousand students from different colleges like ITM University, Prestige Management College, and schools like DPS, Army Public School and Pragati Vidya Peeth participated in most of the events.  At the end of the Tech Fest “AAROH”cash prizes of Rs. One Lakh and appreciation certificates were distributed to the participants of the Tech Fest by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor and HoIs of AUMP. The Dean (Academics), Registrar, Director (Administration), Heads of Schools, faculty members, staff members and students were present on the occasion. The vote of thanks was proposed by the Dr. Sanjay Gomasta, Head MAE. The programme was headed by Prof (Dr.) Bikram K. Bahinipati, Deputy Director and Head of Amity School of Engineering and Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh. Dr. Pankaj Kumar Mishra, Asst. Professor, Applied Physics, and Dr. Manisha Jain, Asst. Professor, Mathematics were the Conveners of the programme. The event concluded with a mirthful DJ Evening that allowed the coordinators and participants to relax and rejoice.

Amity School of Engineering and Technology of Amity University Gwalior conducted a work shop on “Quardcopter” and “Robomobi” on 6-8 February 2015. Workshop was organized by Robospecies Pvt. Ltd. Noida. The Workshop was conducted by the recourse persons Er. Pranjal Kumar (Sr.Research Engineer) and Er. Mohd Asif Khan (Research Engineer). During this workshop, the students were exposed to the basic ideas of micro controller, microprocessor, embedded technology and some basic interfacing of useful modules, like ultra sonic sensor, LEDs, Digital Display, Seven Segment, Motor interfacing with microcontroller tools, which are typically used in industry for designing of advanced projects in DTMF, and Mobile communication based Technology.
This workshop was very helpful for engineering students for making their career in Advance Security System, Electronics Surveillance,Industrial Automation, Industrial Heavy Devices Controlling, Safety Tools Designing System, Defense, Aeronautics, Medical Equipment Designing, Fast Transport System, Secure Communication Systems and many others advanced systems. The workshop provided a good platform for the students to design their own working models by using the concepts of robotics.

The programme conveners Dr. Pankaj Kumar Mishra, Asst. Professor (Applied Physics) and Dr. Manisha Jain, Asst. Professor(Applied Mathematics) coordinated this three day workshop. More than 100 students registered for the workshop. A Quiz competition and Robo Race competition were conducted by the Robo Species Team. Participation certificates were distributed to all participants of the workshop by Prof.(Dr.) Bikram K.Bahinipati, Deputy Director and Head of Amity School of Engineering and Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh. The workshop was hosted by the students coordinators, Ms. Apoorva Singh Jadon and Mr. Manish Tirthani. A vote of thanks was proposed by the Programme Coordinator Prof.(Dr.) Bikram K. Bahinipati.

Amity University Madhya Pradesh Organizes Workshop on Conduct of Personal Interviews (PI) of Students for Amity Common Admission Test

Amity University Madhya Pradesh organized a one day  Workshop on 6 Jan 2015 on the topic ‘Conduct of Personal Interviews (PI) of Students for Amity Common Admission Test (AMCAT)’.

The Workshop began with the address of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor AUMP, Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd). Speaking on the occasion Gen Sharma said that it is essential to formalize and structure the PI process for greater efficiency and effectiveness. Further, he said that, not only would the Faculty members gain inputs on verbal and non verbal communication and method of evaluation but the Workshop would  create synergy that  would enable all faculty members to conduct the AMCAT PI  in a professional manner.

The Workshop  was spread over five sessions. The first session on the ‘Purpose of PIs’ was conducted by Dr Iti Roychowdhury,  Dy Director ASCENT. The session involved a point wise debate on PI Questions- the what , how, which etc. The audience was divided into groups and were asked to come to a consensus over the  points raised in the Questionnaire.

In the II session Ms Jeanne Wilfred Vaz,   Dy Director Admissions, explained the duties  of invigilators as also those of PI panelists and GD Evaluators during AMCAT. She also spoke on the documentation and assessment components of AMCAT.

Ms Sudha Mishra, Asstt Prof, ASCENT,conducted a session on Assessment of Communication Skills during the Workshop. Her session involved a role play that showcased the skills that are required for communication. She then stressed on the aspects of communication that ought to be assessed during the PI.

The post lunch session was that of Dr Deepa Pandey, HoD, AIBAS. Dr Pandey spoke on the Assessment of the candidate’s Attitude and Behaviour. She stressed on the importance of attitude assessment because an incorrect attitude troubles the students throughout his/her stay in the campus.

The last session of the day was  conducted by Mr Amanpreet Randhawah, Asstt Prof ASCENT. His  topic was Assessment of Value Added Qualities and Feedback. This session invited debate on counseling and feedback during the PI.

The Workshop was attended by all members of Faculty of AUMP and generated a lot of discussion – leading to a greater clarity about the AMCAT PIs in the minds of the prospective PI Panelists of AMCAT.

LAW DAY CELEBRATED BY AMITY LAW SCHOOL ON THE 26 NOVEMBER, 2014

Amity Law School celebrated Law Day on 26th November, 2014 at the Moot Court Hall from 1500 hrs to 1645 hrs.

26th November marks the day when the Constituent Assembly of India adopted the Draft Constitution of India framed by it in 1949.  Hence, 26th November is celebrated as the Law Day throughout the country in commemoration of the adoption of the Constitution.

The celebration began with the welcome of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, AUMP, Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd) with presentation of bouquet by Dr Ch. Narasimha Swamy, Dy. Director and Head, Amity Law School, AUMP. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor blessed the students on the occasion and exhorted them to master the practical aspects of the legal profession and plan their careers.  He expressed his confidence that the Amity Law School would emerge as the best Law School in the times to come.

The programme comprised a presentation on the background history of the adoption of the Constitution by the Constituent Assembly of India through PPTs.  The students presented some cultural programmes comprising skits on corruption, the evil practice of dowry, and some songs by the LLM students.

The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Mrs. Bharti Sharma, Coordinator of Amity Law School.

The Directorate of Research & Publication, Amity University Madhya Pradesh organized a Guest Lecture on “How to Write a Research Paper” on 25 November 2014.

The lecture was delivered by Prof. K.V. Arya, Professor of Computer Science at ABV-IIITM, Gwalior. Prof. Arya in his comprehensive talk covered all aspects of writing a Research Paper right from Introduction to Abstract, Methodology, Research &Discussion and Conclusion.

He further, explained and pointed out the common mistakes made by an ordinary writer of a paper and the communication skills of English. Lecture was followed by lively question and answer session.

The lecture was organized especially for young faculty and those who have newly joined the University. The programme was attended by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd), Heads of Schools/Departments and faculty members. In addition all the M.Tech students and research scholars also attended the lecture.

Towards the end of the programme Hon’ble V C gave his concluding remarks. The Vote of Thanks was proposed by Prof (Dr) S P Bajpai, Dean (Research) and Convener of the Programme.

National Seminar on Emmerging Trends in Materials and Processing Technology Organized by Amity University Madhya Pradesh

Report on National Seminar on “Emmerging Trends in Materials and Processing Technology 

India is on a growth path and has embarked on a new journey towards  developing a global manufacturing hub through “Make in India” programme launched by Government of India. As stressed by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor in his message, it is necessary that we must keep innovating new and alternative material  processes and technology  to have a  global competitive advantage. Keeping this in mind as well as the focus of the present day researchers and industries, a two-day National Seminar on “Emerging trends in Materials and Processing Technology” was organized by Amity School of Engineering and Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh at Gwalior Campus on 11-12 November 2014. Day-1: 11 November 2014.The seminar was inaugurated on 11 November 2014 which was Chaired by Honorable Vice Chancellor Lt.Gen. V.K. Sharma AVSM (Retd.), the Guest of honour of the session was Prof. Dr. V.K. Jain, a distinguished Scientist and Professor, who is currently the Director of Amity School of Renewable Energy, Noida. During the Key note Address delivered by Prof. V.K. Jain on “Applications of Micro and Nanotechnologies” he stressed on need to develop  a new class of next-generation sensors by using carbon nano tubes for chemical sensing and biomedical applications. This was followed by an invited talk delivered by Dr. N Satish a senior scientist from Advanced Materials and Processing Research Institute Bhopal. In his talk entitled “2D Materials Processing: Challenges and Opportunities in Graphene Commercialization”, he stressed on graphene as a key material of the future. He outlined that the research efforts over the past decade made significant reduction in production costs and proposed simple methods and solutions in dealing with commercialization of graphene technologies. This was followed by invited talk deliveredby Dr.O.P.Sinha, Amity School of Renewable Energy, Noida. In his talk entitled “ Role of Nanomaterials in OLED’s, he stressed on  different methods used in synthesis of nano materials and role of nanomaterials in Organic light emmiting diodes.

Day-2: 12 November 2014 The day started with an Invited talk by an eminent Scientist Prof. Darshan Lal Sapra, of Amity University Gwalior. In his talk entitled “Processing Technologies for Engineering Materials’ he  stressed on correlation of science, engineering and technology of materials to understand the application of material processing.  This was followed by a Key Note address by Dr.T.Shripathi, Scientist H from UGC-DAE  Inter University Consortium Indore. His talk was entitled, ”Review of some Characterization work carried out on Materials of Technological Importance”. He stressed on importance of  Physics and Chemistry in understanding processing of materials and hence tailoring of the properties of materials. His talk included hydrogenated carbon nitride for low k applications; semiconductor films for optoelectronics, sprintronics, high k applications; chalcogenide and chalcopyrite films for photovoltaic applications; polymers for various applications and iron oxide nano structures. He informed the enthusiastic Researchers about the experimental facilities available at the Inter University Consortium which can be availed by university researchers. It was followed by Special talk on, ”A Microfluidic Sensor for Total Cholesterol Detection”delivered by Dr.Ved Varun  Agrawal  from National Physical Laboratory, New-Delhi. Dr. Agarwal  focussed  on the applications of microfluidic systems for the development of biosensors . He outlined that the research work on the synthesis of novel materials, metal oxides and carbon nanomaterials and their utilization in the fabrication of microfluidic biosensors are vital for mankind.

 Oral Presentation and Poster Presentation Sessions

 The National Seminar was highlighted by overwhelming response of the participants through their contributions in Research Papers for Oral and Poster presentations. The review committee selected 15 quality papers for Oral Presentation and 35 papers were selected for presentations in Poster session. The Oral presentations session on the day one (11 Nov) was chaired by Prof. P.Rajaram from School of Studies, Jiwaji University Gwalior and on day two (12 Nov)  Oral Presentation session was chaired by Prof. D.C.Tiwari from School of Studies, Jiwaji University Gwalior, Poster presentations were also Judged by Prof. D.C.Tiwari. The Best Papers for Oral Presentations were awarded jointly to Girish Kumar Sharma  and B. Santhi Bhusan for their Papers entitled "Study of the Effect of Material Variation on the Performance of Tunnel FET” and  “Size Dependent Structural Stability of Hexagonal BAs Nanowires ” and  Best paper for Poster presentation was awarded to Aman Gupta for the paper entitled, "Graphene  Synthesis and Future Applications.”

The valedictory ceremony for National Seminar on “Emmerging Trends in Materials and Processing Technology was held on 12 Nov 2014. This session was chaired by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. V.K. A Brief Report of the Seminar was presented by the organizing Joint Secretary of the seminar Dr.Manisha Singh, which was followed by the concluding remarks by the Chairman and Chief Guest of the ceremony. The certificates   were  distributed to all  the participants. The vote of thanks was proposed by the organizing secretary Prof. Bikram K. Bahinipati of Amity University Madhya Pradesh.

Faculty members, students, participants and members from print and electronic media were present on the occasion. The two day Programme was conducted in the seminar hall of the University.
