National Seminar on Emmerging Trends in Materials and Processing Technology Organized by Amity University Madhya Pradesh

Report on National Seminar on “Emmerging Trends in Materials and Processing Technology 


India is on a growth path and has embarked on a new journey towards  developing a global manufacturing hub through “Make in India” programme launched by Government of India. As stressed by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor in his message, it is necessary that we must keep innovating new and alternative material  processes and technology  to have a  global competitive advantage. Keeping this in mind as well as the focus of the present day researchers and industries, a two-day National Seminar on “Emerging trends in Materials and Processing Technology” was organized by Amity School of Engineering and Technology, Amity University Madhya Pradesh at Gwalior Campus on 11-12 November 2014. The Organizing Committee Members of the National Seminar are:

Day-1: 11 November 2014.The seminar was inaugurated on 11 November 2014 which was Chaired by Honorable Vice Chancellor Lt.Gen. V.K. Sharma AVSM (Retd.), the Guest of honour of the session was Prof. Dr. V.K. Jain, a distinguished Scientist and Professor, who is currently the Director of Amity School of Renewable Energy, Noida. During the Key note Address delivered by Prof. V.K. Jain on “Applications of Micro and Nanotechnologies” he stressed on need to develop  a new class of next-generation sensors by using carbon nano tubes for chemical sensing and biomedical applications. This was followed by an invited talk delivered by Dr. N Satish a senior scientist from Advanced Materials and Processing Research Institute Bhopal. In his talk entitled “2D Materials Processing: Challenges and Opportunities in Graphene Commercialization”, he stressed on graphene as a key material of the future. He outlined that the research efforts over the past decade made significant reduction in production costs and proposed simple methods and solutions in dealing with commercialization of graphene technologies. This was followed by invited talk deliveredby Dr.O.P.Sinha, Amity School of Renewable Energy, Noida. In his talk entitled “ Role of Nanomaterials in OLED’s, he stressed on  different methods used in synthesis of nano materials and role of nanomaterials in Organic light emmiting diodes.
Day-2: 12 November 2014 The day started with an Invited talk by an eminent Scientist Prof. Darshan Lal Sapra, of Amity University Gwalior. In his talk entitled “Processing Technologies for Engineering Materials’ he  stressed on correlation of science, engineering and technology of materials to understand the application of material processing.  This was followed by a Key Note address by Dr.T.Shripathi, Scientist H from UGC-DAE  Inter University Consortium Indore. His talk was entitled, ”Review of some Characterization work carried out on Materials of Technological Importance”. He stressed on importance of  Physics and Chemistry in understanding processing of materials and hence tailoring of the properties of materials. His talk included hydrogenated carbon nitride for low k applications; semiconductor films for optoelectronics, sprintronics, high k applications; chalcogenide and chalcopyrite films for photovoltaic applications; polymers for various applications and iron oxide nano structures. He informed the enthusiastic Researchers about the experimental facilities available at the Inter University Consortium which can be availed by university researchers. It was followed by Special talk on, ”A Microfluidic Sensor for Total Cholesterol Detection”delivered by Dr.Ved Varun  Agrawal  from National Physical Laboratory, New-Delhi. Dr. Agarwal  focussed  on the applications of microfluidic systems for the development of biosensors . He outlined that the research work on the synthesis of novel materials, metal oxides and carbon nanomaterials and their utilization in the fabrication of microfluidic biosensors are vital for mankind.

 Oral Presentation and Poster Presentation Sessions

 The National Seminar was highlighted by overwhelming response of the participants through their contributions in Research Papers for Oral and Poster presentations. The review committee selected 15 quality papers for Oral Presentation and 35 papers were selected for presentations in Poster session. The Oral presentations session on the day one (11 Nov) was chaired by Prof. P.Rajaram from School of Studies, Jiwaji University Gwalior and on day two (12 Nov)  Oral Presentation session was chaired by Prof. D.C.Tiwari from School of Studies, Jiwaji University Gwalior, Poster presentations were also Judged by Prof. D.C.Tiwari. The Best Papers for Oral Presentations were awarded jointly to Girish Kumar Sharma  and B. Santhi Bhusan for their Papers entitled "Study of the Effect of Material Variation on the Performance of Tunnel FET” and  “Size Dependent Structural Stability of Hexagonal BAs Nanowires ” and  Best paper for Poster presentation was awarded to Aman Gupta for the paper entitled, "Graphene  Synthesis and Future Applications.”

The valedictory ceremony for National Seminar on “Emmerging Trends in Materials and Processing Technology was held on 12 Nov 2014. This session was chaired by Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. V.K. Sharma AVSM (Retd.). The Chief Guest of the function was Dr. T.Shripathi  from UGC-DAE  Inter university Consortium Indore. A Brief Report of the Seminar was presented by the organizing Joint Secretary of the seminar Dr.Manisha Singh, which was followed by the concluding remarks by the Chairman and Chief Guest of the ceremony. The certificates   were  distributed to all  the participants. The vote of thanks was proposed by the organizing secretary Prof. Bikram K. Bahinipati of Amity University Madhya Pradesh.

Faculty members, students, participants and members from print and electronic media were present on the occasion. The two day Programme was conducted in the seminar hall of the University.

Guest Lecture on "Quality Assurance in Higher Education in India and Abroad" organized by Amity University Madhya Pradesh

Amity University Madhya Pradesh organized a Guest Lecture on “Quality Assurance in Higher Education in India and Abroad” on Nov, 10, 2014.

In this lecture Prof(Dr) Chandra Mohan, Professor of English and Comparative Literature. Prof (Dr)Chandra Mohan apprised the audience about the three indicators of Quality Assurance in Higher Education in India and Abroad. He also gave the students an insight in the challenges of Quality Assurance and benefits of assessment and accreditation for Universities.

Stressing the need for research in Indian Universities, Prof (Dr) Mohan informed the audience that CRISIL plays an important role in providing research opportunities to students in India. He also briefed the students about Meta University concept in India and abroad.

This highly interactive and informative lecture concluded with a vibrant Question and Answer Session,where students and faculty put forth queries regarding the topic discussed.

The lecture was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt Gen V.K.Sharma AVSM (Retd), Prof(Dr) R.S.Tomar, Dean Academics, The HoIs, HoDs, faculty of ASCENT, ASL, AIB, ASET and ASCO and the students of III and V Semester of AUMP, Gwalior.

Amity Business School organises National Seminar on “Economic Indicators and Global Market: Impact on India”

 A National Seminar titled “Economic Indicators and Global Market: Impact on India” was organised on 8th Nov. 2014 by the Amity Business School, Amity University Gwalior.

Economic Indicators of the global market are constantly influencing the world business and India is not an exception. Therefore it is essential to investigate,understand and compile the practice and performance of management within a fast-moving and challenging global environment.

However,in reviewing and evaluating the latest Economic Indicators and Global market, we must take care of its impact on India. The seminar theme provided an excellent opportunity for the delegates-researchers, academicians, policymakers and other professionals working in these areas to interact with each other, share their views and provide guidance young researchers.

The inaugural session of the seminar started with the traditional lighting of the lamp followed by the opening remarks of the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor AUMP, Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma AVSM (Retd.). Mr. Ambrish Singh, Vice President, INFO EDGE (INDIA) Ltd. was the Guest of Honour on the occasion while Prof. Pramod K Gupta, Former Head, Institute of Management studies, DAVV graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.The dignitaries along with Dr. Anil Vashisht, Dy. Director Amity Business School, also released the Book of Proceedings on this occasion.

Dr.Vikas Madhukar, Dy Director Amity Business School, Director - Events and Head-Admissions, Amity University Haryana, Gurgaon (Manesar) was the Chief Guest in the  I Technical Session.  Eminent Speakers in this session of the seminar were Dr. Monika Prakash, Professor and Nodal Officer, Indian Institute of Travel and Tourism Management, Gwalior, Prof. Savogya Awasthi, Prof. & Head of Dept. SoS and Dr Manoj Patwardhan, Professor, ABV- Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management.

The II Technical Session was chaired by Prof. Pramod K Gupta,Former Head, Institute of Management Studies, DAVV along with Mr. Krishna Kumar Jha, General Manager and Head – Quality Assurance, JK Tyres who was the Guest of Honour in this session. The Keynote address was given by Prof. Abhijeet Singh, Professor, and Faculty of Management Studies Banaras Hindu University. The concluding remarks were presented by Prof. Pramod K Gupta, Former Head, Institute of Management Studies, DAVV.

The Valedictory Session of the seminar was chaired by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor AUMP, Lt. Gen. V. K. Sharma AVSM (Retd.) Mr G. K. Rai, Ex. GM. Hindalco & Ex.Chief Manager ALBA(BAHRAIN), Dr. Vikas Madhukar, were the distinguished Speakers. Dr. Saurabh Dixit was given a cash prize, certificate and a memento for the best paper presentation in this session. The session concluded with the vote of thanks by Dr. Anil Vashisht, Deputy Director, Amity Business School and Organising Secretary of the seminar.

Amity University Madhya Pradesh celebrated the 139th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’

Amity University Gwalior celebrated the 139th Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on 31st Oct 2014 as ‘Rashtriya Ekta Diwas’ .
On this occasion Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Amity University Gwalior Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd) addressed the students. He spoke of the vital role that Sardar Patel played in the freedom struggle and later in the integration of the States. Gen Sharma exhorted the students to become familiar with the history of our country and to be proud of our heritage.
The Honble VC’s address was followed by a short documentary on the life of Sardar Patel which was received extremely well by the audience.
Present on this august occasion were Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd), Hon’ble VC, AUMP, Dr S.P. Singh, Professor Emeritus, Kurukshetra University, Haryana, as a special guest, all HOIs/HODs, members of the faculty & staff together with a large body of students. An oath of unity and integrity was also administered to all of them.
An Essay Writing Competition on the topic “ Role of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel in the formation of Indian Union” was held later. A large number of students from all programmes enthusiastically participated in this competition.

AIDS Awareness Campaign
A Red Ribbon Club is a voluntary program, which has been initiated and supported by the AIDS Control Society of India. The objective of this club is to fight against AIDS, prevention of drunk driving and drug addiction. The Red Ribbon Club of Amity University Gwalior has organized an AIDS Awareness Campaign on 20 October 2014. In order to mark the occasion, a poster and collage making Competition/Exhibition was organized by the students of the university. The enthusiasm, creativity and awareness about the AIDS prevention initiatives were reflected in all the posters and collages exhibited by the students. As many as 49 entries were accepted and displayed in the competition.
Further, in order to motivate the faculty members, staff and students of the university, a guest lecture was organized to contribute towards the success of the AIDS prevention initiatives taken up by the National AIDS Control Society of India.Dr. Bharat Jain, HOD, Department of Pathology, Gajra Raja Medical College, Gwalior, was invited to deliver a talk on AIDS awareness and prevention measures to be taken by the people. The program was started with a floral welcome of the invited speaker by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt Gen V K Sharma, AVSM (Retd). Dr. Jain focused on the real challenges faced by the society at large from the perspectives of AIDS control. He addressed a series of measures to prevent the menace arising out of AIDS virus. A vote of thanks was proposed by the program officer of Red Ribbon Club, Dr. Rachana Kathal. The program was attended by all the HOIs/HODs, faculty, staff and the students of the university.

The month long sports events under SANGATHAN 2014 came to an end in a gala ceremony held in the premises on 17 Oct 2014.

The ceremony started with the welcome of the Hon’ble VC,  Amity University Gwalior Lt Gen V K Sharma AVSM (Retd). The Hon’ble VC also took the salute of the March Past by the sportsmen, sports women of  Amity University Gwalior. The Sports Officer Mr. Ravi Pal then presented the Sports Report of SANGATHAN 2014. He told the gathering that a total of Eleven events were held including Cricket, Basketball, Volleyball, Kabbadi, Athletics, Football, Carrom, Table Tennis, Chess, Badminton and Tug of war. Both boys and girls of the University participated enthusiastically in these genres. Faculty events in the form of TT and Chess were also held during SANGATHAN 2014.

The Hon’ble VC gaveaway the Gold, Silver and Bronze Medals to the winners. In his address he said that “The word SANGATHAN stands for UNITY and it does what it means. It unites us. Whether you stood 1st,2nd or 3rd in a competition, it doesn't matter much. But what matters is that you participated and you should participate, always with true sportsmanship.” Motivating and congratulating the students, he further opined that “I would be very happy to see the students from Amity University Gwalior to win the competition at Amity Noida also. And I would advise the students to play with true sportsmanship. In school, my motto was ‘Play the Game’. Not only in sports, in real life also. And I would like to say that keep your moral always high, keep the Amitian and the National flag high in the sky.”

Amity University Gwalior organizes Inauguration of National Workshop cum Hand-on-Training on “Latest Techniques in Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering and Computational Biology”

Inauguration of National Workshop cum Hands-on-Training on “Latest Techniques in Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering and Computational Biology” at Amity University,Gwalior
Amity Institute of Biotechnology, Amity University Gwalior has organized a five days National Workshop on “Latest Techniques in Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering and Computational Biology” from 13th October 2014 to 17th October 2014.

The workshop was inaugurated by lamp lighting and Saraswati Vandana on 13 Oct 2014. In the inaugural ceremony, Ex-Professor Jiwaji University, Gwalior Prof. (Dr.) R. Mathur was the Chief Guest and Prof. (Major) Dr. Asha Mathur, Ex-Principal, Govt. KRG PG College, Gwalior was present as the Guest of Honour.

On this occasion the Organizing Secretary of National Workshop Prof.(Dr.) Rajesh Singh Tomar, Dean (Academics) & i/c Vice Chancellor, Amity University Gwalior presented a brief detail about the workshop programme. He told the audience that in the workshop recognised scientists and academicians from reputed institutes & organizations will be delivering their lectures on Latest Techniques in Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering and Computational Biology followed by demonstration and Hands-on Training in techniques related to the topics. A number of participants from all over India took active participation in the workshop.

In his address, Prof. (Dr.) R. Mathur focused on Industry-oriented research. He called upon the audience to use products made in India. He also discussed about the lacuna of educational system to get in pace with the demands of Industries and said that it is high time to be more focused on providing such facilities which motivate students towards research & innovation. He congratulated Prof. Tomar for taking such an initiative in this context.

Prof.(Major) Dr. Asha Mathur emphasized on being honest in the research & not to manipulate results. She motivated the youth to take active participation in Nation building.

The distinguished guests released the Lab Manual on “Laboratory Procedures in Biotechnology” authored by Prof.(Dr.) Rajesh Singh Tomar and Co- authored Dr. R. K. Mishra and Dr. Shuchi Kaushik.

Keynote speaker of the event Prof. (Dr.) G.B.K.S. Prasad, Dean Life Sciences, Jiwaji University, Gwalior gave his presentation on “Basics of Molecular Biology” He mainly focused on the research implications of Epigenetics in finding the root cause of various dreadful diseases like cancer and neurological disorders. He also highlighted the promising role of Epigenetics in treatment of such diseases.

The inaugural session ended with felicitation of honourable guests by providing them mementoes. Dr. Raghvendra Kumar Mishra,Coordinator Amity Institute of Biotechnology, proposed vote of thanks.
In the Hands-on Training session, the participants were given demonstration on DNA and Plasmid isolation followed by Hands-on-Training on the same techniques by Dr. Vikas Shrivastav and Dr. Anurag Jyoti, faculty members of Amity Institute of Biotechnology.

On 14thOct. 2014, second day of the National Workshop Senior scientist from CIMAP, Lucknow, Dr. Sunita Dhawan will deliver a lecture on “Tools & Techniques of in RDT” followed by demonstration and hands-on-training session.

On third day of the National workshop, Dr. S.P. Singh, Senior Scientist, BHU, Varanasi will deliver his lecture on“Importance of Transgenic Animals & Plants” and will demonstrate the relevant techniques.
Fourth day of National Workshop will be have a lecture by Dr. Ram Kumar Mishra of IISER, Bhopal on “Advancement of Sequencing Techniques and their Applications in Reverse Genetics” followed by hands-on-training session.

On the fifth and the final day of the National workshop, Dr. Gitanjali Yadav, Senior Scientist from NIPGR, New Delhi will deliver a talk on“Application of database and In-silico tools in Molecular Biology” and will demonstrate the use of computer based programs and tools in Bioinformatics.

Amity University Gwalior Organizes Photography Competition 'Click-O-Mania'

Amity University Gwalior organized its first ever juried photography competition ‘Click-O-Mania’ on Friday, 10 October 2014 with the aim to enthuse and encourage the students towards Photography. The event was hosted by Amity School of Communication and exhibited the talents of emerging student photographers at its Studio inside the university campus.
The event commenced at 1.45 pm with the arrival & welcome of the Chief Guest, Dr. Santosh Awasthy, Senior Programme Executive, Doordarshan Gwalior which was then followed by the lamp ceremony.
The making of Click-O-Mania and a documentary on history of photography was shown to initiate the competition. Thereafter the photo entries of students were exhibited. The entries in the competition were submitted on three themes – ‘Retro, Festival, My Angle My Nation’. These challenged students of all skill levels. Students participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. Over 50 photographic submissions were received, which were reviewed by a judging panel of esteemed professionals.
The shortlisted students were questioned by the judges on the basis of which,winning entries were identified.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks presented by the HOI, ASCO, Dr. Sumit Narula.

Amity University Madhya Pradesh organizes Junk Morphia- ‘Design a Product’ Competition

Junk Morphia- ‘Design a Product’ competition conducted successfully at Amity University Gwalior
Amity University Gwalior, Arts Club had successfully organized an event called Junk Morphia- Design a product competition on 8th October 2014 from 9.30 am to 1.30 pm.
During the event 17 teams consisting of 39 students participated from across all academic fields within the campus with a creative bent of mind, to churn their creativity and design useful products from the waste around them. Design a product aimed at practical, functional and aesthetically pleasing outputs with concepts, successful design execution and marketing strategy.
Justification of selection of usage, user benefit and material used for production was mandatory.
The product designed by students during the competition will be exhibited on 17th October 2014 during Lunch hours at Room No. 204 (Block B), II Year Architecture studio to motivate the students and appreciate the student’s talents and creativity.
The competition was judged by Prof Y.P Singh, Dy. Director ASAP, Dr Iti Roy Choudhury, Dy Director ASCENT & Dr Anil Vashisht, Dy Director ABS and was highly appreciated.
