Amity University Gwalior Organizes Workshop on Soft Skills

The Workshop aimed to familiarize and empower students to perform to the best of their abilities in the crucial group discussion and personal interview (GD and PI) components for their employment interviews.

The workshop comprised modules on:
-  How to handle GD successfully
-  Preparing an effective CV
-  Understanding what the interviewer wants from the students
-  Handling Interviews with confidence
-  Mock GD/ PI sessions
-  Mentoring Skills

Offering tips to the students on winning strategies pertaining to GD, Col. Prasad apprised the students on the process of GD which has three stages - Initiation, Discussion and Conclusion. He further briefed the students about the various roles that a candidate can play such as initiator, channelizer, contributor, moderator, limelight seeker, yes minister, confrontationalist, borrower and concluder. He also informed the students about the parameters on which GD is evaluated, characteristics of successful group discussion, and the method of participation in the GD.

Col. Prasad elaborately and lucidly explained the definition of interview and threw light on the qualities of students which are assessed during an interview. He helped the students in framing the answers for the important questions and highlighted the concept of how to maintain a pleasant appearance and body language during an interview as both of these reflect the personality of the candidate to the panelists.Talking about CV and its importance, Col. Prasad gave his expert tips on components of a good CV, preparing for the interview, common mistakes by the students during facing an interview and Dos and Don’ts of an interview.

Mock GD and PI sessions were also conducted, in which the students had an opportunity to attend interviews conducted in real life situations and were provided with analysis from the resource person.
Col. Prasad also conducted a session on Mentoring skills exclusively for the faculty of Amity university gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.

Expressing his views on the mentor-mentee relationship Col. Prasad apprised the audience about thefunctions and different stages of mentoring. He also gave the faculty an insight of the role of mentor and mentee and stressed on the need of setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Time-bound) development goals. He also briefed the faculty about the dynamics of the relationship ofmentor and mentee.
Overall, the workshop received an enthusiastic participation from the students and faculty. This highly interactive and informative lecture concluded with a vibrant Question and Answer Session, where students and faculty put forth queries regarding the GD and PI skills and Mentoring skills as well.
This highly interactive, activity oriented and informative workshop was graced by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Lt Gen V.K. Sharma AVSM (Retd.), Prof (Dr) R. S. Tomar, Dean Academics, The HoI’S, HoD’s, faculty of ASCENT, ASL, AIB, ASET and ASCO and the final year and PG students of AUMP.
The session ended with the concluding remarks and presentation of memento to the guest speaker by the Hon’ble VC AUMP Lt Gen. V. K Sharma AVSM (Retd). The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Iti Roy Chowdhury, Dy.Director, ASCENT, AUMP
